Dear Sunnyside School Families,
What a fantastic school dance celebration! A heartfelt thank you to our incredible School Council for organizing such a fun, welcoming, and well-run event for our students. Your time, energy, and attention to detail truly made the evening special. To our families, thank you for coming out, supporting the event, and helping create such a positive, joyful atmosphere. Seeing our students laughing, dancing, and making memories together is what community is all about. We are so grateful for the partnership that makes events like this possible!
Warmly,
Shannon Muir
Principal, Sunnyside School
School Conferences
We have several important dates coming up, including our student-involved conferences. This is a meaningful opportunity for students to share their accomplishments, reflect on their goals, and guide their families through their learning across different subject areas. Students speak about their progress from their own perspective, highlighting what they have been working on and what they are proud of. Teachers help students prepare so they feel confident explaining their learning journey and walking you through the goals they have been focusing on over the past few months.
- Saturday, March 7 at 9:00 AM: Conference booking opens
- Thursday, March 19: Conferences 4:30 PM – 8:00 PM
- Friday, March 20: Conferences 9:00 AM – 1:30 PM
Please note that conference booking closes on Thursday, March 19 at 8:00 AM so the school can prepare. If you need to book after this time, please contact the school office directly. There will be no school for students on Friday, March 20, which leads into Spring Break.
Enrolment 2026–2027
We have begun closely monitoring our enrolment for the upcoming school year. If you know that your child will not be attending Sunnyside School next year, please inform our office so we can make note of this. While we receive enrolment projections each year, actual numbers often differ from projected figures, and keeping accurate, up-to-date information helps us make thoughtful and effective organizational decisions for the year ahead. Our teachers will also be collecting this information during conferences.
School Council Meeting – March 12
A presentation will be shared regarding School Development and Budget/Fees planning, and we invite all families to attend to learn more about Sunnyside School's goals and achievements. During this session, you will have the opportunity to learn about:
- School planning, including the School Development Plan, school budget, and school fees
- How the School Development Plan establishes the overall focus and direction for improving student learning outcomes
- How the school budget supports and funds the implementation of our School Development Plan
- School fees and the purpose they serve
The meeting takes place on March 12 at 6:00 PM in Room 4, or join online via this Teams link (Meeting ID: 279 254 031 369 34 – Passcode: 9jE7Nr2S). We look forward to your participation and continued partnership.

Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are essential to making our field trips possible, and we truly value the time and support you provide. We are unable to proceed with many of these experiences without volunteer assistance, as legal requirements must also be met. The Grade 5/6 team is in need of more volunteers for Seed School running April 6–17. If you are available and willing to help, please contact Ms. Betcher at lmbetcher@cbe.ab.ca and/or Ms. Lang at smlang@cbe.ab.ca. Your support makes these meaningful learning opportunities possible for our students.
