Dear Sunnyside School Families,

We have a busy and exciting time ahead at Sunnyside School, and I’m pleased to share the following updates and upcoming events.

Olympics at Sunnyside

Friday, February 6, 2026

The Olympic Games begin this week, and Sunnyside School will be recognizing the Olympics on Friday, February 6, with a variety of fun and meaningful activities throughout the day.

What to Expect

  • Physical Education: Olympic-inspired skills, games, and events
  • Parade: Students are invited to wear colours representing a country of their choice
  • Flag Activity: Students may create a flag representing a favourite Olympic event, place (or country), or an Olympic value such as teamwork or perseverance
  • Classroom Connections: Some classes may watch a short portion of the opening ceremonies and make Social Studies connections, with a focus on citizenship. Teachers will share details through their weekly classroom communications as it relates to their grade-level curriculum.
  • Medal Display: A display in the school courtyard will track Canada’s gold, silver, and bronze medals and the events in which they are earned

We’re looking forward to celebrating global community, shared values, and learning together.

Picture Day Retakes

Friday, February 6, 2026

Picture retakes will take place this Friday. If you would like your child to participate, please let your classroom teacher know so arrangements can be made.

Library Update – Thank You, Sunnyside Community!

Thanks to participation in the Read-A-Thon, Sunnyside School has been able to:

  • Add $1,500 worth of new books to our library
  • Remove computer carousels to create more space for shelving and flexible seating

We appreciate your continued support of literacy and learning. School Council will be hosting another Read-A-Thon in March to support the continuation of library improvements.

School Dance – “Sprinkle Kindness”

Thursday, February 26, 2026 | 6:00 PM

School Council will be hosting the Friendship Dance with the theme Sprinkle Kindness on February 26 at 6:00 PM
This event will replace the annual Halloween Dance typically held in October. More details will be shared soon.

School Improvement Survey

As part of Alberta Education’s ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, the annual School Improvement Survey will be conducted for:

  • Students in Grades 4, 7, and 10
  • Parents or guardians of participating students

Important Information

  • Participation is voluntary and anonymous
  • Each question is optional
  • The survey gathers important feedback about school experiences to support system-wide improvement

Families will receive an email with a Random Access Code (RAC) to complete the survey. Please note:

  • A separate code is provided for each eligible child
  • Only one parent response per child can be submitted
  • RACs are single-use
  • Please check your junk or spam folder if you have more than one child receiving a code

Warmly,
Shannon Muir
Principal, Sunnyside School
