What a great week of community-building!  We were excited to have our first whole-school assembly on Thursday.  We practiced sitting with our classes in the gym, listening to the Land Acknowledgement, singing O'Canada and our Sunnyside School song.  Everyone cheered as we introduced all of our classes.  We look forward to welcoming family members on Thursday, September 28 for our Orange Shirt Day assembly.

Safety:

Each year we are required to have 6 practice fire drills and 2 practice lockdown drills.  We will be practicing each drill in the next 2 weeks or so.  Teachers will be practicing with students and students will be aware of the drills ahead of time.  

Welcoming, Caring, Safe and Respectful Schools

Teachers will be reviewing the Student Friendly Code of Conduct with their classes next week, or may have already shared it.  This is our ongoing work every day of the school year.  Our staff is committed to providing a safe place for all students to learn.  Please review the document so you know what our expectations are. Code of Conduct

Monday, September 11

• Kindergarten students will begin entering and exiting through the Front Door.  All other students will continue using the South Door.  Kindergarten teachers will send an email to parents explaining this change.

• International Dot Day - Students are welcome to dress in dots on this day that celebrates "a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration".  Classes will work on individual and collaborative projects that celebrate taking risks and being creative!
