Sunnyside Weekly - September 28, 2023
Truth and Reconciliation Week:
Thank you to all family members who were able to join us for our Orange Shirt Day assembly. We are proud to share with you our students’ learning and actions towards Reconciliation Through Education. This school year, our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation is to:
“deepen our understanding of the Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework while we investigate our school-wide question: What does well-being mean to me? We will use the resources in the Indigenous Education Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework Companion Guide to reflect on our current practices and set goals for Classroom and Whole-School Approaches. We will connect this work to our Social-Emotional Continuum of Supports.”
We look forward to sharing our journey with our school community.
There are many ways for families to get involved and recognize Truth and Reconciliation Day on September 29 and 30. Please see this information: https://school.cbe.ab.ca/school/Sunnyside/about-us/news-centre/_layouts/15/ci/post.aspx?oaid=4c7c8677-65f9-4a8e-9ab2-40f5aaf16642&oact=20001
Culture Week:
Next week, we will recognize Culture Week at Sunnyside. Classes will explore stories from many sources that help us understand and embrace diversity. At Sunnyside, all are welcome and it is our shared responsibility to make sure that everyone feels like they belong!
Artist in Residence:
Next week, we will also be welcoming Jackie Soppit for a week-long residency of Indigenous dance and music. Jackie was featured in CBE’s Indigenous Newsletter for Winter 2022: “Through dance, song and teachings of all nations she aims to strengthen cultural identity awareness, wellness and uniting cultures.” Each class will get to spend time with Jackie every day this week. Thank you, Sunnyside School Council for funding this important shared experience!
