Sunnyside Weekly - September 1, 2023

The First Week of School!

Welcome to the first edition of Sunnyside Weekly for the 2023 – 2024 school year!  At the end of each week, I will send an email with a link to our school website with information that families need to know.

Thank you, caregivers, for helping your children to be ready for their first few days of school.  The school has been fun of energy and excitement as students and staff get to know each other. Students are learning the new routines of their new classrooms, connecting with friends and meeting new classmates.

Please read this message carefully because there are many things to share with you at the beginning of the school year.  You can always look at our website for up-to-date information about our school.

Safety

Children’s safety is very important to us.  Please help your child travel to and from school safely by:

·      making sure they wear a helmet while riding bikes, scooters, skateboards or rollerblades

·      crossing at the crosswalks

·      not walking through the parking lot or dropping off in the parking lot

Health and Being Away from School

Please help us keep our students and staff healthy by keeping your child home when they are sick.  If your child is going to be away from school or late for any reason, please notify the office by calling (403) 777-6390, extension 1 or emailing Sunnyside@cbe.ab.ca.

Class Lists

I have had some questions about how class lists were made and I want to assure you that the teachers and I carefully considered many factors when we organized the classes for this year.  These factors were detailed in an email I sent to parents in June 2023 and are listed here:

  • Students' learning and social-emotional needs
  • A mix of English Language Learners, special needs and gender
  • Students' working relationships with their peers
  • Students' learning styles

Professional staff work hard to make sure that each student will be in a place where their learning and social-emotional needs will be met and that the classes are balanced. Parents were invited to share their requests for their children’s learning in writing to me by June 8, 2023.   At this time, we will not be making any changes to class lists.
