Dear Sunnyside School Families,
Several important dates are fast approaching, one of which is our upcoming student-involved conferences. This is an opportunity for students to share their accomplishments, set future goals, and guide their families through their learning journey across various curricular areas, from the perspective of the student. With support from their teachers, students will discuss the goals they have been working on over the past few months.
Student-Involved Conferences will take place on:
- Thursday, March 20, from 4:15 – 8:00 pm
- Friday, March 21, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
- Conference booking will open Thursday, March 6, at 7:00 am.
Please note that there will be no school for students on Friday, March 21, as this marks the beginning of spring break.
Enrolment
As we plan for the upcoming school year, we are closely monitoring our enrollment numbers. If you know that your child will not be attending Sunnyside School next year, we kindly ask that you inform our office so we can update our records. While we receive projected enrollment information from the planning department each year, it is essential for us to track real-time data, as actual numbers often differ from projections. This helps us make informed decisions regarding school organization for the next academic year. Our teachers will also be collecting this data during student-led conferences.
School Council Meeting
The School Council Meeting will be held online this Thursday, March 6 at 6:00pm. Please join us using the following Zoom meeting information:
Meeting ID: 834 8101 6402
Passcode: 653783
Or by using Zoom.
A Principal presentation around the School Development and Budget/Fees planning will occur. During this engagement, you will have the opportunity to learn about:
- School planning, which includes the school development plan, school budget and school fees
- How the school development plan sets the overall focus and direction for a school to improve student learning outcomes
- How the school budget provides funding to implement our school development plan
- School fees and why they are necessary
Shout Out
We would like to take a moment to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of Ms. Betcher's Grade 5/6 students, Ms. Lang’s Grade 5/6 students, and Ms. Jones' Grade 4 students, who raised an impressive $610 for Habitat for Humanity!
The students participated in Habitat for Humanity's "The Meaning of Home" contest, where each student wrote an essay reflecting on the concept of home—its significance and the understanding that a home is more than just a house. Each submission earned $10 for Habitat for Humanity, contributing to this important charity, which helps build homes for those in need.
We are proud of the hard work and dedication of these students, and together, they raised $610 for a worthy cause.
Please note that the Grade 3 students were not eligible to participate in the contest, as it was not open to their age group according to the guidelines set by Habitat for Humanity.
Travel Safe Student Video Contest
The City of Calgary has encouraged us to submit entries for this exciting video contest and we are inviting you to participate from home if you have a child that is interested.
Please find attached the updated poster for the 2025 Travel Safe Student Video Contest. This contest is open to all Calgary students in Kindergarten to Grade 12 and aims to promote safety while traveling on city streets, sidewalks, and pathways. This contest encourages students to think creatively about how to stay safe in their daily journeys by creating a 30s video. There is a chance to win prizes and have their work featured in future City safety campaigns. More information about the contest can be found on the contest webpage. The deadline for contest submissions is April 30, 2025.
Warm regards,
Ms. Muir
