Dear Sunnyside School Families
I am thrilled to share the success of our recent Grade 5 & 6 Bottle Drive! Thanks to the incredible support from our students, families, and community members, we collected an impressive number of bottles, returning $742 to support funding a year-end celebration at Calaway Park for our Grade 5/6 students and a donation to two local charities – the Calgary Food Bank and Inn from the Cold.
The staff and I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our School Council and the Fundraising Society for their generous support in making our upcoming field trips and school carnival possible.
Carnival – May 1
Les Bûcherons' Lumberjack is coming to Sunnyside School to provide an exciting and immersive half-day experience that brings French-Canadian culture to life through music, storytelling, and traditional activities. Students will engage in interactive performances featuring lively fiddle music, energetic dancing, and entertaining stories that highlight the rich history of Canada’s voyageurs and lumberjacks. This engaging program not only enhances French language learning but also fosters an appreciation for cultural traditions in a fun and memorable way. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to connect with history while enjoying an entertaining and educational experience! Families are welcome to join for a final student concert.
Save the Date for School Literacy Night!
Mark your calendars! We are excited to invite all families to our upcoming School Literacy Night on May 8 at 5:30. This special evening will focus on the science of reading as it connects with our School Development Plan Literacy Goal, with engaging activities that support literacy development from Kindergarten to Grade 6. Families will have the opportunity to explore strategies for building strong reading skills, discover the building blocks of literacy, and participate in interactive stations designed to make reading fun and meaningful. Stay tuned for more details, but for now, be sure to save the date—we can’t wait to see you there!
Warm regards,
Ms. Muir
