Dear Sunnyside School Families, 

What a wonderful first week it has been at Sunnyside School! 

It has been such a joy to welcome our students back and to see the school come alive with learning, laughter, conversation, and connection. There is something special about those first days of a new school year—new classrooms, new routines, new friendships, and so many possibilities ahead. 

Our students have been working hard to settle into their routines, get to know their teachers and classmates, and begin building the strong sense of belonging that makes Sunnyside School such a special place. We know that the first week can be exciting and, at times, a little tiring as everyone adjusts to the rhythm of school again. Thank you for your patience, encouragement, and partnership as we get the year underway. 

A very big thank you to our staff as well. Their care, energy, and commitment have been evident throughout the week as they have worked to create welcoming and engaging spaces for every student. 

Welcome Back to School BBQ hosted by School Council  

We invite our Sunnyside community to join us on Thursday, September 10 for our School Council Annual General Meeting. We’ll begin at 5:00 p.m. in the courtyard with hot dogs and an opportunity for families to connect and gather together. The AGM will begin at 6:00 p.m. We encourage all families to join us, learn more about School Council, and find out how you can be involved in supporting our school community this year. 

School Council Annual General Meeting 

We are looking forward to welcoming families to our School Council Annual General Meeting this Thursday, September 10. 

School Council is an important part of our school community and provides an opportunity for parents and guardians to connect with the school, share ideas, support our students, and help shape the experiences we create together. All parents and guardians of Sunnyside students are members of School Council, and we warmly encourage families to get involved. The AGM is an opportunity for parents to participate in the election of School Council representatives for the 2026 –2027 school year. 

Whether you are able to attend regularly, would like to volunteer occasionally, or simply want to learn more about what School Council does, we would love to see you there.

Annual Forms  

Please complete your Annual Forms in your MyCBE account for the 2026-27 school year. Currently 1/3 of our families have already completed them!  Thank you for your attention to this. 

Please submit the Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms in SchoolEngage for your child by Monday, Sep. 14.  These forms are mandatory every year for Alberta Education and Childcare to confirm student funding. 

Student Health Plan 

If your child has a diagnosed medical condition, severe allergy, or needs medication administered during school hours, you must complete a formal Student Health Plan these forms are reviewed and updated annually or sooner if there is a change in the student's health concern or school registration. 

Volunteering 

To ensure the safety and security of CBE students and staff, all volunteers must be registered with the school each school year before participating in volunteer activities. 

The Annual Volunteer Registration Form is valid for the current school year only. All volunteers, including returning volunteers, must complete a new registration form in your MyCBE account each school year before participating in volunteer activities.

Staffing Updates 

This fall, the CBE has hired hundreds of teachers, education assistants and other school staff to support student learning. These positions have been funded by the Government of Alberta with the intention of addressing classroom complexity and class sizes. 

Additional staff will help ensure students benefit from: 

  • Increased teacher attention 
  • Improved classroom learning environments 
  • Greater support for diverse learning needs
