Dear Sunnyside School Families,
Thank you for your continued partnership and support — we have a few exciting updates and reminders to share as we head into November.
Reminder - Automating Attendance Notification – November 3
Starting Monday, November 3, 2025, our school will begin using an automated attendance notification system to inform parents and guardians when a student is marked absent. This system will send both a phone call and an email to the primary contact listed in our records.
Our goal is to ensure timely and consistent communication regarding student attendance. If your child is absent and we have not received prior notice, you will receive a notification shortly after attendance is taken.
As with any new process, there may be occasional adjustments as we fine-tune the system. If you receive a notification in error indicating that your child was marked absent, please contact the school office for clarification. In many cases, this may occur when students take a few extra minutes to transition - such as changing shoes or organizing materials after the bell has rung and after teachers complete attendance.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we implement this new system to improve communication between home and school.
Read-a-Thon
We are now collecting pledge sheets and reading logs — please send them to your child’s classroom teacher. Announcements about prizes and winners will be shared once all forms have been returned.
All funds raised will support enhancements to our school library, including the purchase of new books aligned with student interests, the creation of cozy reading areas, and the addition of flexible seating to make the space even more welcoming for all students.
Thank you for your continued support in encouraging your child to read and helping our library grow. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Remembrance Day Assembly – Nov 7
Our school will hold a brief Remembrance Day assembly on Thursday, November 7. Given our limited time back together, this year’s ceremony will be simple and focused on reflection and respect. Students and staff will come together to honour those who have served and to recognize the importance of peace, gratitude, and remembrance. Families are welcome to join us, and we appreciate your understanding that this year’s assembly will be a shorter, simplified version with an approximate duration of 30 minutes. We will be heading to the gym at 10:30.
Warmly,
Shannon Muir
