It’s been a fun and busy week!
Earth Rangers Assembly
Students had the opportunity to attend an engaging Earth Rangers Assembly, where they learned about how to protect wildlife and the environment. Our special guests included a python, an armadillo, and a lizard, which made the experience even more memorable. These experiential learning opportunities help students deepen their understanding of environmental stewardship and inspire a sense of wonder and responsibility for our planet.
Volunteer Tea
We were delighted to host the Volunteer Tea and celebrate the contributions of our wonderful volunteers. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us—it was heartwarming to see the students' excitement as they performed and had the chance to serve you drinks. Events like these also create opportunities for students to further develop their skills in communication and build on their appreciation for others’ contributions.
Bell Time and Child Care
Starting in September, Sunnyside School will have a yellow school bus! This new service explains the adjustments to our bell times. Our School Council has also been brainstorming ways to support families with before-school childcare to help you meet your work obligations. If you’d like to receive updates or be added to a distribution list for more information, please email Liz Crawford, our casual (substitute) school secretary at ercrawford@cbe.ab.ca.
Mrs. Summerton continues to be away. In the meantime, Liz Crawford will help ensure the office continues to run smoothly and support everyone’s needs until the end of the school year. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.
National Indigenous Month
June is National Indigenous Month and we will be spending time with our students looking deeper into Indigenous Ways of Knowing to support our work around Truth and Reconciliation. The following CBE website has many resources families can use and refer to should they wish to explore with their children (scroll to the bottom of the page for links to other ideas):
We look forward to another exciting week ahead. Please see the upcoming dates section for a list of events and actions.
Sincerely,
Shannon Muir, Principal
