Dear Sunnyside School Families,
Thank you so much for joining us for our Literacy Night! It was such a joy to see so many of you exploring classrooms, participating in activities, and celebrating our students' learning together.
We’re grateful for your continued support in helping to build a strong culture of literacy at Sunnyside. Events like this are a reminder of how powerful it is when families and schools come together to inspire a love of reading and learning in our children. Students shared that their favourite parts of the evening were “being able to show my mom and dad around” and “the (literacy vocabulary) scavenger hunt.”
Read-A-Thon and Events
We will continue the week with the Read A Thon to keep students engaged in reading at home and school while collecting pledges that will go towards enhancing the school library. This week's events include:
Monday: Teacher SWAP for Reading Time
Tuesday: Dress as Your Favourite Character
Wednesday: Crazy Sock Day
Thursday: Create Your Own Book Cover
Friday: Reading BINGO
School Council Spring Cleaning and Grade 5,6 Bottle Drive Thursday, May 29
A spring cleanup is being held at the school alongside the bottle drive on May 29, from 3:30–5:00 PM. Spring cleaning volunteers will help with light tasks like pruning, trimming, and tidying up around the council-sponsored naturalization areas. If you're able to lend a hand, your support would be truly appreciated!
Volunteer Tea Thursday, May 22
We’ve had many volunteers that have supported us in a variety of ways and would like to honor you at our upcoming Volunteer Tea. Save the date and time: Thursday, May 22 10:30 – 12:00. To help us plan, please take a moment to complete this short RSVP survey (even if you’re unable to attend): https://forms.office.com/r/97Fvch8kuW
Dress for the Weather
With the warm weather, we've seen a welcome increase in outdoor learning opportunities. Please ensure your child comes prepared for the sun with a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, deodorant, and a water bottle to stay comfortable throughout the day.
Starting this Monday, we’re excited to begin our outdoor soccer residency! A big thank you to our School Council and Soccer John for helping make this experience possible. Note: If it is raining hard, we will move indoors.
Sincerely,
Shannon Muir, Principal
