As we move further into February, there are many exciting learning opportunities and community events taking place at Sunnyside. Below you will find important information about our upcoming gymnastics unit in Physical Education, report cards and student goal-setting conversations, Pink Shirt Day, our School Kindness Dance, and a reminder about our Lost and Found. Also, please remember to check the upcoming dates section at the end. We appreciate your continued partnership in supporting both the learning and well-being of our students.

Gymnastics Unit – Physical Education & Wellness

Sunnyside students are participating in gymnastics-based Physical Education and Wellness learning for the next several weeks. Students will progress through a sequence of floor work, mats, benches, small apparatus, and the Canadian Climber.

Safety is our highest priority. Students will be taught and reminded daily of CBE safety rules and expectations. Given the nature of the equipment and activities, we will be placing a strong emphasis on safe and responsible behaviour at all times.

To help your child prepare each morning, please ensure:

  • Long hair is tied back (we have a limited supply of hair ties if needed).
  • Watches and decorative jewelry are removed. Small stud earrings are permitted.
  • Students wear either bare feet or athletic shoes. Grip socks (such as those from indoor play centres) are also acceptable.
  • Clothing is appropriate for movement. Hoodies will need to be removed and shirts tucked in for safety.

Thank you for your continued support as we provide a variety of engaging movement experiences for Sunnyside students.

Report Cards

Report cards will be available on MyCBE on February 24, 2026.

Please note that report cards are removed from MyCBE accounts each summer. We encourage families to download and save a copy for their records.

Here are some practical tips for having positive conversations about report cards with your child:

Start with strengths.
Begin the conversation by highlighting what your child is doing well. Celebrating effort, growth, and positive habits to build confidence.

Ask reflective questions that focus on growth (not just grades).
Ask questions like, “What are you most proud of?” or “What was challenging?” This helps children reflect on their learning process rather than just the final result.

Focus on growth and next steps through goal setting.
Together, identify a small, manageable next step and talk about how you can support it at home. Ask your classroom teacher if you need help with this.

Keep the conversation open and ongoing.
Report cards are a snapshot in time. Check in regularly about how things are going and celebrate progress along the way. Remember, you can reach out to your classroom teacher at any time to check in and/or get ideas for how to help at home. Also, save the date for student-involved conferences on March 19 and 20.

Pink Shirt Day

On Wednesday, February 25, Sunnyside will join schools across Canada in recognizing Pink Shirt Day, students are encouraged to wear something pink as a symbol of their commitment to standing up against bullying and supporting one another. We will have an assembly at 2:45 in the gym.

School Kindness Dance – Thursday, February 26 at 6:00 p.m.

School Council is hosting a Friendship and Kindness Dance on Thursday, February 26 at 6:00 p.m., with the theme “Sprinkle Kindness”. Students are invited to wear pink or red in support of the theme. There will be music, treats, and plenty of fun as we celebrate friendship, kindness, and the positive impact we can all have.

Lost and Found

There are several clothing items that students have misplaced. Despite several efforts to reunite them with their rightful owners, many items remain unclaimed. A “lost and still lost” display will be open during the dance.
