We hope you had a wonderful long weekend. We are looking forward to welcoming students back tomorrow, which is also Lunar New Year!

This week is also Fun Lunch and our Bottle Drive — thank you in advance for your support in making these community events a success.

Ramadan and Fasting

Ramadan is a sacred time of fasting, prayer, reflection, generosity, and gratitude for many Muslim families. In 2026, Ramadan is expected to begin on the evening of February 17 and conclude around March 18, depending on the lunar calendar.

During this time, those who are fasting do not eat or drink from dawn to sunset. Some of our students and staff may be observing the fast. If your child will be fasting, please let school staff know so we can ensure they feel supported and included during lunchtime activities and throughout the school day.

Fun Lunch and Bottle Drive

This week, Sunnyside will host Fun Lunch and our Bottle Drive (grade 1,2 hosting). These events are wonderful opportunities for students to come together, enjoy community-building activities, and contribute to school initiatives. Thank you to families for supporting these events — whether by helping with the bottle drive or participating in Fun Lunch, your involvement helps strengthen our school community.

Pink Shirt Day

On Wednesday, February 25, Sunnyside will join schools across Canada in recognizing Pink Shirt Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about bullying and promoting kindness, empathy, and inclusion. Pink Shirt Day began in Canada when two high school students took a stand against bullying by wearing pink shirts to support a peer. At our school, we encourage all students to wear pink as a symbol of their commitment to standing up against bullying and supporting one another.

Throughout the week, students will engage in conversations and activities that focus on kindness, empathy, and promoting a sense of belonging. This year’s theme is “Sprinkle Kindness”.

School Kindness Dance – Thursday, February 26 at 6:00 p.m.

Our School Council is hosting a Friendship and Kindness Dance on Thursday, February 26 at 6:00 p.m., with the theme “Sprinkle Kindness”. Students are invited to wear pink or red in support of the theme. There will be music, treats, and plenty of fun as we celebrate friendship, kindness, and the positive impact we can all have on each other.

There are several clothing items that students have misplaced. Despite several efforts to reunite them with their rightful owners, many items remain unclaimed. We will also have a lost and still lost display open during the dance.
