Dear Sunnyside School Families

Class Lists 2025-26

As we begin planning for the upcoming school year, one important and complex task is the creation of class lists. This process is approached with care and involves many factors to ensure every child is placed in a learning environment that supports their academic, social, and emotional development.

Our classroom teachers and grade teams, who know their students best, work closely with the principal to thoughtfully create balanced class groupings. In addition to individual considerations—such as learning needs, social-emotional considerations, academic strengths or challenges, peer relationships, and relevant medical needs—we also consider overall class composition. This includes class size, gender balance, a range of learning profiles, and social dynamics across the grade to create equitable and effective classrooms.

While the final decisions rest with the school team, your input is welcomed. We do not have the teachers finalized in each grade team and will not until we have moved through the spring staffing process. For this reason, please do not request a particular teacher. The deadline for these requests will be May 15.

If there are specific factors that may significantly impact your child’s learning, you are invited to outline the type of environment that would best support their needs here: https://forms.office.com/r/7aybWPXMHp

Please note that due to the complexity of the process and the need to balance many considerations, not all requests can be accommodated, however, they will be considered.

Thank you, in advance, for following the guidelines above. We value your partnership and appreciate your understanding as we work to create the best possible learning environment for every student.

Volunteer Tea

We’ve had many volunteers that have supported us in a variety of ways and would like to honor you at our upcoming Volunteer Tea.  Save the date and time: Thursday, May 22 10:30 – 12:00.  To help us plan, please take a moment to complete this short RSVP survey (even if you’re unable to attend): https://forms.office.com/r/97Fvch8kuW

New Bell Times

As a reminder, starting in the 2025–26 school year, our school’s bell times will change due to a new provincial law that changes how transportation eligibility is calculated. Our new bell times for 2025-26 will be:

  • Entry: 9:06 AM
  • Dismissal (Mon–Thurs): 3:39 PM
  • Dismissal (Fridays): 1:09 PM
