Thank you to everyone who has signed up to volunteer for the Trickster Theatre performance—we truly appreciate your support.
We have now completed our final lockdown practice of the school year. This is a good opportunity to share a reminder about what the different school bells mean:
Short single bell (approximately 3 seconds, heard indoors and outdoors):
- Signals a transition in the school day
- Start/end of the school day
- Start/end of recess or lunch
Continuous indoor bell:
- Signals an evacuation (e.g., fire drill)
- This bell is not heard outdoors
Continuous outdoor bell:
- Signals an internal lockdown
- Students and staff remain inside the building
- Exterior doors are locked
- Learning continues inside as much as possible
- Typically used in response to a situation in the community, not a threat inside the school.
- In the event of an internal situation (e.g., a lockdown drill), the same continuous outdoor bell will be used
We have two more fire drills to complete before the end of the school year. In the latter half of the year, drills are unannounced to better reflect real conditions and help us identify any areas where procedures can be strengthened. Students with identified needs may be given advance notice.
Earth Day
April also provides meaningful opportunities to connect learning to the world around us. As we approach Earth Day, classes will engage in activities that promote environmental awareness and responsibility. Through classroom discussions and outdoor learning experiences, students will be encouraged to consider how they can care for the environment and contribute positively to their community.
Several classes will also be participating in community walks. Specific dates and times will be shared by classroom teachers.
Art Cards
Sunnyside School has purchased student art cards to use as thank-you cards for visitors and guests. Classroom teachers will identify and celebrate the students whose artwork has been selected via their weekly email.
Also, please note that there are several updates to the upcoming dates in the section below.
Warmly,
