Each year, we create a School Development Plan based on input from parents, staff and students and report card data and other assessments. The School Development Plan shapes our school-wide plan for student learning and staff development.
This year we have decided to focus on an overarching theme of resilience. Resilience can be defined as the capacity to remain flexible and adaptable while facing life's challenges. We believe that children can learn skills to be resilient in academics and relationships and that we can give them opportunities to practice these skills in the familiar and safe school environment.
For Literacy, we will focus on working with small groups on common reading skills based on assessment data. Students will learn strategies to use when they encounter difficult words or texts
For Mathematics, we will focus on presenting students with engaging math tasks and using cooperative learning strategies that will encourage perseverance.
Throughout our students' days at school, we will teach lessons that connect resilience to social-emotional competencies (self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision making) and academic success. We will plan school-wide events in order to have shared experiences in learning how to be resilient or to "bounce back".
We look forward to sharing our work with our school community!
